PRP Hair Restoration
PRP applications to the scalp for hair loss are one of the latest technologies available to people in the Atlanta area in search of a natural, minimally invasive option to thicken hair. PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma, which is the part of blood that contains mostly platelets.
The PRP procedure in Atlanta, GA harvests your own blood and isolates cells called platelets, which are rich in growth factors. The growth factors create a signaling cascade to the cells in the scalp to increase hair count, hair thickness, and hair growth.
PRP has been used in many countries around the world for years for the purposes of facial skin and hair rejuvenation and is now available in the U.S. as an additional option to patients in Atlanta searching for PRP.
The process is not recommended for everybody, and your doctor will determine whether it may be right for you. Results may vary among patients based on the body’s natural response to PRP, which will not be the same for all patients and cannot be predicted. Dr. Payman will create the optimal treatment plan and review your goals and expectations with you prior to the procedure. The procedure in Atlanta, GA involves no downtime and takes approximately 30 minutes.
Not all platelet harvesting procedures are the same!Derm Clinic M.D. uses the Harvest Platelet Concentrate System which produces the highest number of platelets and growth factors among all the other systems available. The use of the Harvest system ensures a high platelet count, maximizes the potential for hair growth, and increases the impact of the procedure.
The PRP procedure involves treatments usually once a month for the first 3-4 months, then every 6-12 months after, depending on the progress of hair growth and thickening.
Derm Clinic M.D. in Cumming & Atlanta, GA uses various techniques to make the PRP procedure as painless as possible, which our patients appreciate tremendously!

FAQ’S
What are the risks of PRP?
Since PRP is using one’s own blood, it is virtually risk-free. Minor risks involved include bruising, soreness, and mild swelling of the injection sites.
How soon will I see results from PRP?
Results from PRP take approximately 2-3 months to see. After 3-4 treatments, the physician will determine the frequency of necessary treatments and the effectiveness of the PRP treatment for the patient. Everybody varies and results are not consistent among all patients.
Can I get PRP after hair restoration surgery?
PRP is one of the best methods to maintain results from hair restoration and to “fertilize” the scalp for hair follicles. It is often used as maintenance therapy for hair transplant patients.
Does the PRP procedure hurt?
There is some pain involved with the blood draw (the blood draw is identical to any other blood draw procedure) and there is stinging and burning associated with scalp injections. Our office is extremely advanced with regards to pain minimization techniques and we even offer sedation to patients extremely sensitive to PRP injections. We make the PRP procedure as minimally painful as possible with injections.
How do I prepare for a PRP procedure?
Avoid NSAIDS (Ibuprofen, aspirin, Aleve, Naproxen, etc) for 7 days prior to the procedure and 5 days after. Avoid alcohol, fish oil, and vitamin E for 3 days prior to the procedure.
